Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)
Obligations for businesses to comply with testing and inspection requirements are set out in:
- Electricity at Work Regulations (1989)
- Health and Safety at Work Act (1974)
There are two key parts to portable appliance testing:
- formal visual inspection
- electrical testing
We consider the formal visual inspection to be the most important component of a regular
maintenance regime. This is because the majority of potentially dangerous faults can be
uncovered during such inspections. Our inspections will check all components of the appliance from the plug
through the lead to the appliance itself.
A number of criteria will be assessed during our inspections, including:
- the condition and fusing of the plug
- the condition, length and security of the lead
- the state of the appliance in terms of usability and damage
We can arrange for a visit to explain your obligations and how we can assist you further. We can also arrange for any
PAT testing to occur at a time that suits you and your business.
